Here’s a look at what qualifications your A/C Installer must have:

• Does the individual sizing the unit posses a valid journeyperson refrigeration mechanic license in the province of Saskatchewan? Journeyperson refrigeration mechanics are trained and qualified to size air conditioning systems
• Does the individual sizing your system have at least 10 years of experience in the industry sizing air conditioning systems?
• Bigger isn’t necessarily better.  Bigger may cost more, use more energy, cycle on/off frequently and affect overall comfort.
• Considerations when sizing an air conditioning unit: size and age of the home, home’s design/layout, local climate, condition of ductwork, etc.
• Does the company installing the equipment carry Workers Compensation insurance for their employees, City Contractor’s license , Liability Insurance, Better Business Bureau rating?

This comes to the important point of having a reputable contractor providing you with an honest quote.

A reputable contractor will:

• Come to your home and quote you accordingly

• Year round support (service and maintenance)
• Be with a company that has been in business for at least 10 years

There are more things to consider than just a reputable contractor. You will want to be aware of the VALUE that the hired company will be providing you. Below are a few things to look out for.

Installation

• Wall mounted or ground mounted? Wall mounted minimizes ground trash and dirt.  Is the foundation outcrop high enough to install a wall mount kit?
• Line set to be installed between the cooling coil (in furnace supply air duct) and the outside condensing unit.  Can the run be easily installed or are their impediments like internal drywall ceilings where the lines must be installed above?

Noise

• Where do you expect to locate the outside air condenser unit?  Will it be near a deck. Is noise created by the A/C unit going to be an issue? Lennox offers noise reducing options for their air conditioning units. The lower the DB sound rating the lower the noise level of the unit.

Warranty

• What is the manufacturer’s warranty for components, compressor and the heat exchanger?  The warranty periods may vary depending on the model selected.

• Mini Split Ductless System  – Do you want to cool an apartment or condo? Possibly a mini split ductless A/C system might fit the bill.
